A lot of people are becoming more aware of the chemicals that are put in our everyday produce and how this can harm them, this is why they decide to grow organically. A lot of organic gardening strategies are cheap. This article will provide some great tips for organic gardening.
Put sod down the right way. Start by preparing your soil with care. Get rid of weeds and tilth the soil finely. Compact the soil lightly and firmly, and be sure to create a flat surface. Thoroughly moisten the soil. The optimum layout of sod rows is to stagger them with offset joints. Tamp down the sod so it has a flat and even surface, then using some extra soil, fill the gaps between. You will have to water the sod every day for 2 weeks, and then it should be firmly rooted to the ground, and able to be walked on.
Shoveling clay is very difficult and lots of work because the clay is hard and sticks to the shovel, making it tough to handle. To make working in clay easier, rub the shovel with floor or car wax and then buff it with a cloth. The wax will help keep dirt from sticking to the shovel, and will also keep the metal from rusting.
The first thing you can do to avoid pests is to start with healthy soil in your garden. Healthy plants are naturally more resilient against pests and disease. So if you want your garden to provide plants that are as healthy as possible, you need a good quality soil that contains few chemicals and that can accumulate salts over time.
If powdery mildew appears on your plants, don’t purchase expensive chemical solutions. Plain water with a bit of liquid soap and baking soda will do the trick. Once a week, spray this solution on your plants and your mildew should disappear in no time. No damage will occur to your plants, and the baking soda is mild and efficient.
When winter comes, you can save a few plants by transferring them inside the house. Find out which plants will be able to thrive despite the transplanting and different indoor conditions. Cautiously avoid the roots while digging, and put your plant into a perfectly sized pot.
When gardening in the fall, you need to be watching for stink bugs. They like beans, peppers, tomatoes and many fruits. If left uncontrolled, they can cause substantial damage in your garden, so make plans for how to protect your plants from these pests.
The approach of fall means you need to start planting autumn goodies. A pumpkin makes a great container, and costs less than a clay pot. First, cut out the pumpkin’s top layer and remove the seeds. Then, spray some Wilt-Pruf on the insides to prevent the rot that would follow otherwise. Now you can use the pumpkin as a planter.
